RTO Reduction WhatsApp Templates
RTO reduction templates are the WhatsApp messages that stop a cash-on-delivery order from coming back to you unsold — address confirmation, COD verification, a prepaid nudge, and a delivery-day reminder. 2. COD verification

3. Prepaid conversion nudge

Best for: The highest-leverage message here — a prepaid order essentially cannot RTO.
4. Delivery-day reminder

Best for: Morning of delivery; "not available" is the second-biggest RTO cause after bad addresses.
5. Failed-attempt rescue (before RTO)
Hi {{name}}, our courier tried to deliver order {{order_id}} today but could not ({{failure_reason}}). They will try once more before it is returned. Reply with a number: 1️⃣ Try again tomorrow 2️⃣ Different address 3️⃣ Different phone number A reply keeps your order alive.
Best for: Same evening as a failed attempt — the last window before the courier triggers RTO.

Frequently asked questions
What actually causes RTO on COD orders?
Four things, in rough order of size: a wrong or incomplete address (especially the pincode), the customer not being reachable or available at delivery, buyer's remorse between order and arrival, and outright fake orders. Each of the templates above targets one of those, which is why the set works better than any single "confirm your order" message.
Does converting COD to prepaid really help?
It is the strongest lever available, because a prepaid order essentially cannot RTO — the customer has already paid, so refusal at the door becomes a return, not a return-to-origin, and most customers simply accept the parcel. A discount of ₹30–₹50 that converts a COD order to prepaid is usually far cheaper than the forward-plus-reverse shipping you would otherwise risk.
Are these Utility or Marketing templates?
Utility — every one of them relates to a specific existing order, so they cost roughly ₹0.115 each in India rather than ₹0.8631. The prepaid-nudge template is the one to watch: it mentions a discount, and a heavily promotional framing can get it reclassified as Marketing. Keep it framed as a payment option on an existing order, not as an offer.
